Around that time, I worked in a large grocery store in Leeds. It was a part time job that I had while still at school. One evening, a gent came into the shop..he was very well dressed in a dark suite and carrying an umbrella. The only thing he didn't have was a bowler hat. I immediately recognised him as an actor who I had seen numerous times on the tv throughout the 60's & 70's. But I didn't know his name. I watched him walk down the back aisle lifting up things from the shelves and having a look. I had things to do, but when I looked again he was gone. Ever since that time, I used to tell people who I had seen, but I didn't know his name, so they didn't know who I was talking about. With the advent of the internet, I still couldn't place him. The grocery where I work, was on Woodsley Road Leeds...about a 10 minute walk from the Yorkshire Television Studios. And having read about his life, it turns out that he made some, or maybe just one appearance on Ted Roger's 3-2-1..so it all ties in nicely why he would have called into the shop that day over 40 years ago. I'm sure he gave me a quick glance, realising I had recognised him..I like to think so anyway...lol<br />In the 3 years I worked in the shop, I saw quite a few celebrities who popped over from the TV Studios...but Norman Chappell was my best memory..Austin from Leedshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16146953386305401334noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4922806424251815446.post-33562490123481073152021-01-06T18:14:20.115+00:002021-01-06T18:14:20.115+00:00He took my aunt Betty out on a date this would hav...He took my aunt Betty out on a date this would have been in the late 40's my aunt lived in Stepney east London so I think he could have lived around that area back then Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16218583873638941202noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4922806424251815446.post-36208146715609855302019-12-28T22:28:20.541+00:002019-12-28T22:28:20.541+00:00Just seen Norman in 'Jigsaw', an early 60&...Just seen Norman in 'Jigsaw', an early 60's mystery police film, well worth seeking out on TalkingPictures.Nigel Wattshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15430711594826354379noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4922806424251815446.post-50290402678323219032019-07-28T12:13:23.758+01:002019-07-28T12:13:23.758+01:00He lived in Hastings. The certificate states his father was George William Chappell, Lance Corporal 1st Bn Duke of Cornwall Light Infantry 5429105 and his mother was Dorothy Mary Chappell formerly Cooper. This has caused further confusion as we believed his mother was (simply) Mary Cooper, no previous mention of her actually being Dorothy Mary. Trying to prove that his Grandparents were Henry Cooper (no not that one) from Cheshunt and Hepzibah Dyer from the Isle of Wight.Red Destroyerhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01398005685074162409noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4922806424251815446.post-87650553221412228412018-02-10T07:14:39.610+00:002018-02-10T07:14:39.610+00:00just seen norman in an episode of all gas and gait...just seen norman in an episode of all gas and gaiters...very funny man.Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12077293732531040513noreply@blogger.com
