What a Carry On this weekend!

 

There are quite a few Carry On films in the television schedules for the coming weekend so I thought I would blog the details so you know when, where and what! There are four films from the series being shown on either one of the ITV channels or over on Film 4.

Saturday:

Carry On Matron (1:05pm) Itv3

The last medical Carry On with a story that's part hospital romp and part comedy heist. Sid James and his gang attempt to steal a load of birth control pills from Finisham Maternity Hospital, by sending Kenneth Cope in as a nurse, in drag. Classic comedy with Hattie Jacques, Kenneth Williams and Terry Scott (in his last Carry On).

 
Carry On Follow That Camel (2:55pm) Itv3

Another costume romp from the prime 1960s period of wall to wall successes for the gang. This entry didn't do quite so well due to the absence of Sid James and the gamble of casting big name American star Phil Silvers in the title role. Still plenty of fun to be had in this foreign legion epic (filmed at Camber Sands) with Jim Dale, Peter Butterworth, Angela Douglas and Joan Sims all on excellent form.

Sunday:

Carry On Follow That Camel (10:40pm) itv3

Another chance to see the gang frolic down on Camber Sands!

 

Carry On Jack (12:45pm) ITV

The first costume romp with the Carry On team was this sail on the high seas with a smaller than usual roster of regular actors. Joining Kenneth Williams, Charles Hawtrey and Jim Dale are Bernard Cribbins and the delightful Juliet Mills.

 

Carry On Teacher (3:05pm) Film4

Back to black and white for this early film from the team, the third in the series. Teacher is more Ealing Comedy meets St Trinian's and probably the most innocent of all the Carry On films. Ted Ray guest stars in his only Carry On as the headmaster planning to leave his school once he's dealt with some pesky inspectors - however the children have other ideas. Early Carry On favourites such as Leslie Phillips, Charles Hawtrey, Joan Sims and Kenneth Connor are joined by a host of Corona Academy kids including the young Richard O'Sullivan and rising star Carol White (who went on to make Cathy Come Home). 


I'm sure you've all seen these films countless times, but who can beat Sunday afternoon on the sofa with a classic Carry On?
