The A - Z of Carry On Supporting Actors: Billy Cornelius

This is the latest in a brand new series for Carry On Blogging. It might be slightly ambitious, but I'm going to attempt to do a run through the alphabet of some of the more interesting Carry On supporting actors. One of the reasons I set up this blog was to turn the spotlight on some of the lesser known Carry On actors who nevertheless played an important role in the success of the film series.

Today we continue with the next letter in the alphabet, C and C is for Billy Cornelius.

Carry On films: Billy Cornelius had small parts in eight Carry Ons. He first appeared as a Horseman in Carry On Cowboy in 1965. He went on to play OddBod Junior in Carry On Screaming, a soldier in Don't Lose Your Head, a patient in plaster in Again Doctor, a guard in Henry, a police constable in GIrls, a tough man in Dick and finally a man with a salad in Carry On Behind in 1975.

Also appeared in: Cornelius worked again for Rogers and Thomas in The Big Job (1965), Bless This House, as a police constable (1972), a waiter in the Carry On Stuffing 1972 Christmas television special and finally small parts in three episodes of the ATV series Carry on Laughing in 1975.

Best known for: Both his work as a stunt man in many television and film productions but probably especially for the role of Oddbod Junior in the iconic Carry On Screaming!

Did you know: Although playing Oddbod Junior on screen, the voice of the character was actually that of the films' director, none other than Gerald Thomas!

What are they up to now: Billy Cornelius is credited as being born in 1934 so if he is still with us (and I very much hope he is) he would be 82 this year. His last recorded acting appearance was as a Crofter in an episode of The Nightmare Man in 1981. If anyone has any further details on Billy's life and career, please do get in touch.
