Carry On Podcasts!
The other day I had the good fortune to discover a couple of really entertaining podcasts with a strong Carry On theme. Comedy Historian Robert Ross has hosted many afternoons featuring famous faces from the world of British Comedy at the Museum of Comedy in Bloomsbury. Now some of these informal afternoons have been made available online to download.
A couple caught my eye and first up was that legend of British comedy, Mr Bernard Cribbins. I could listen to Bernard natter away all day, he's a first rate raconteur and during his long, impressive and diverse career seems to have worked with just about everyone. And thankfully he's still going strong. Bernard talked about the wonderful comedy films he made with the likes of Peter Sellers and Lionel Jeffries as well as of course, the Carry On films. It appears Carry On Jack was the favourite of the three Bernard made (although my own personal favourite is Spying!) It was lovely to hear Bernard talk about all the children's television he has done over the years too, especially his fondness for Jackanory, a programme I was raised on.
Next up was the lovely Sally Geeson. Sally spoke fondly of her time making the classic Thames Television sitcom Bless This House as well as her joy at working with the likes of Sid James and Diana Coupland. She also shared memories of working alongside Carry On favourite Patsy Rowlands. The Carry On films were also mentioned and there were tales from the Corona Academy and early film appearances with the likes of Norman Wisdom and Vincent Price. It was great to hear Sally talk about her interesting life and career.
I would recommend you check out both of these podcasts and explore the others available. You can listen to them all here and find out more about Robert here
