The A - Z of Carry On Supporting Actors - Nicki Van Der Zyl

This is the latest in a brand new series for Carry On Blogging. It might be slightly ambitious, but I'm going to attempt to do a run through the alphabet of some of the more interesting Carry On supporting actors. One of the reasons I set up this blog was to turn the spotlight on some of the lesser known Carry On actors who nevertheless played an important role in the success of the film series.

Today we continue with the next letter in the alphabet, Z and Z is for Nicki Van Der Zyl.

Carry On films: Nicki played the small role of the messenger in the guillotine sequence in Carry On Don't Lose Your Head, leading to the famous line from Charles Hawtrey "Drop it in the basket, I'll read it later!"

Best known for: Nicki is mainly known as a voice actor, providing the voices for several female characters over the course of ten James Bond films released during the 1960s and 1970s.

Did you know: Van Der Zyl is German and has become quite a celebrity in her homeland due to her involvement in the Bond series. Recent years have seen exhibitions about her life and career and Nicki has attended various special screenings of classic Bond films.

What are they up to now: At the age of 81, Nicki Van Der Zyl is retired from acting and living in London. She still works as an artist, poet and public speaker.

And that sadly, is the last entry in this particular series of blogs. I hope you have enjoyed them!
