The A - Z of Carry On Supporting Actors: Davy Kaye

This is the latest in a brand new series for Carry On Blogging. It might be slightly ambitious, but I'm going to attempt to do a run through the alphabet of some of the more interesting Carry On supporting actors. One of the reasons I set up this blog was to turn the spotlight on some of the lesser known Carry On actors who nevertheless played an important role in the success of the film series.

Today we continue with the next letter in the alphabet, K and K is for Davy Kaye.

Carry On films: Davy Kaye appeared in two Carry On films. Kaye's first appearance in the series came in 1965 when he played enterprising undertaker Josh in Carry On Cowboy. After a seven year hiatus Davy returned to Pinewood for another supporting turn, this time as Sid's bookmaker Benny in the classic Carry On At Your Convenience.

Also appeared in: Kaye made guest appearances in a wide range of classic British films. These included roles in Crooks in Cloisters (1964), Chitty Chitty Bang Bang (1968) and a Nightingale Sang in Berkeley Square (1979).

Best known for: Being a legendary British entertainer. From 1954 - 1968 Kaye presented a weekly show at London's Embassy Club.

Did you know: Davy Kaye was King Rat in the Grand Order of Water Rats, a charitable organisation that benefits members of the entertainment industry. Kaye was later awarded the Badge of Merit and Bar, the highest honour the organisation can award.

What are they up to now: Davy Kaye sadly passed away in February 1998, in the Bahamas. He was 81.
