Carrying On with Barbara at 80

Dame Barbara Windsor celebrates her 80th birthday this Sunday, 6th August. Being the very definition of a national treasure, Barbara has been on our screens for an incredible seven decades. Making her name working with Joan Littlewood at the Theatre Royal Stratford East, Barbara was soon making Carry On films, starring on Broadway and appearing in television shows like The Rag Trade.

Her 16 years at the helm of the Queen Vic in EastEnders only cemented Barbara's place in our affections all the more. Now, at the age of 80, Barbara shows no signs of slowing down and is as much at the heart of the British way of life as she ever was.

As this is such a special milestone for the evergreen star, I couldn't let the occasion pass without posting a few special blogs. Starting on Barbara's birthday itself, I'll be posting a week of special pieces looking back at the life and career of Dame Barbara. There will be plenty of classic clips from different aspects of her career as well as my own take on Ms Windsor.

So stay tuned for a right old Carry On next week!
