Barbara Windsor on set in Sparrers Can't Sing

Some wonderful, previously unseen photos of Barbara Windsor on set in the film Sparrers Can't Sing have been released. Barbara got her big cinematic break in this film, which came out of the Joan Littlewood Theatre Workshop stable and was released in 1963.

Barbara would of course go on to appear in several classic Carry On films in the 1960s and 70s, becoming one of the series' most instantly identifiable stars. The photos from Sparrers Can't Sing show a young Barbara, many years before her more revealing roles in the likes of Carry On Abroad, Girls and Dick.

The shots, which show Barbara behind the scenes and posing for sweet publicity photos, put me in mind of Babs as seen in her first Carry On, Carry On Spying made the following year. I've always thought Barbara was at her best in Spying and the roles that followed never quite matched it.

Anyway, the photos can be viewed in the Daily Mail article which you can view here - they are well worth checking out.
