BBC Radio 4 Extra have done it again! Today they are airing another one of Joan Sims' classic radio performances. In Dogged Persistence, by Martyn Wade, Joan teams up with the wonderful Elizabeth Spriggs.
Joan and Elizabeth play a couple of women who are brought together by a troublesome dog. First aired in 2000, this must have been one of Joan's last performances before her sad death at the age of 71 in June 2001.
Joan and Elizabeth first worked together in the BBC children's television adaptation of Simon and the Witch, which was broadcast in the late 1980s. I remember this series fondly from my youth - Elizabeth played the witch of the title while Joan played the gloriously snobbish Lady Fox-Custard! Sims and Spriggs struck up a great friendship working together on this series and they were reunited again when they both appeared in the BBC's adaptation of Martin Chuzzlewit in 1994. Spriggs played Mrs Gamp while Joan was a deliciously unpleasant Betsy Prigg!
