Happy Birthday Sid!

Comedy great and Carry On legend Sidney James was born on this very day in 1913. It's hard to believe Sid has been gone nearly 40 years, let alone that it's 102 years since his birth!

Sid was a big part of my childhood. I loved his performances in the Carry Ons, in Bless This House on television and all his radio and telly work with Tony Hancock. A brilliant actor who graced hundreds of film and television productions, I think it's wonderful that he has achieved such iconic status. Sid really is still as popular today as he was during the height of the Carry Ons back in the 1960s.

Rather than trot out the usual Carry On clips, I thought I'd share something else today to celebrate Sid's birthday. As part of the Carry On London stage show which ran in London between 1973-1975, the cast recorded several songs which were released as part of the publicity effort. Sid wasn't really known as a singer although he had appeared in musical theatre in the past.

So here is a double bill of classic treats. First of all Our House, then the rather touching She's Gone.

Happy Birthday Sid.
