Barbara Windsor was at Buckingham Palace to meet the Queen today. Yes, our Barbara received her damehood and looked as proud as punch. Whatever you think of Ms Windsor, and she has her fair share of knockers (Sorry!) I'm really pleased for her.
Barbara has been a fixture on the British entertainment scene since the 1950s, of course coming to prominence in nine Carry On films. As one of the last main stars of our favourite comedy films, it's great to see her acting career and charity work receive this recognition.
I think what endears Barbara to me most is that despite her ups and downs, both personal and professional, she has always bounced back. And there is no finer example of this than her return to popularity as the infamous Queen Vic landlady Peggy Mitchell in EastEnders.
She has certainly made the most of her various talents and we must both admire and respect that. Barbara is always good value and I think her request to be known as Dame Babs really does highlight her cheeky, down to earth persona. Apparently after her investiture, Babs and her husband Scott went for a rather posh knees up at Fortnum and Mason's. Good for them!
All the best Dame Babs!
