With thanks to several fans on Twitter for drawing my attention to this gem, recently broadcast on the wonderful, brilliant BBC Radio 4 Extra. Joan Sims made many radio appearances throughout her career from the early 1950s right up until the late 1990s. This radio series is a new one on me though and was originally broadcast in 1990.
Joan stars alongside Geoffrey Palmer, Brian Murphy and Sylvestra Le Touzel in the last episode of the series, The Sixth Sense. Here is some information on the series from the BBC Radio 4 Extra website:
A busy doctor's surgery is failing its patients until the loyal receptionist discovers she has a gift.
Starring Polly James as Marjorie, Michael Angelis as Dr Cole, Bridget Turner as Angela and Kay Stonham as Jill.
Senses is a six-part comedy drama boasting a stellar list of star names, including Joan Sims, Charles Gray, Alex Jennings, Sylvestra Le Touzel, Geoffrey Palmer, Lynda Bellingham, Brian Murphy, Rodney Bewes, Liz Fraser, Rory McGrath and Maurice Denham.
As writer Bob Sinfield explains: "The six half-hour plays dealt respectively with the five obvious senses plus the er...other one".
Producer: Neil Cargill

Joan Sims also featured alongside Liz Fraser as cleaning ladies in the BBC radio series Bristow, often repeated on 4extra. There was also a Radio 2 series called The Life Of Kenneth Connor which featured many Carry On stars including Leslie Phillips, Bernard Bresslaw and director Gerald Thomas.
ReplyDeleteThanks! I've not heard any of Bristow so I will definitely keep an ear out for it! Thanks for the info!
