This
is the beginning of a new series of blogs on Carry On Blogging. I plan
to blog each year of Carry On, featuring photos of the most prolific
actors for each year. Hopefully it will provide an interesting overview
of the changing face of Carry On during the series' original mammoth
twenty year run.
It will turn the spotlight on the familiar faces who endured over the decades as well as those artists who came and went along the way. We are continuing today with the second official year of Carry On: 1959. Two films were produced that year, Carry On Teacher in the spring of 1959 and Carry On Constable towards the end of the year. Although Constable was released in 1960, as it was made the previous year I'm including it in this blog.
Pictured above we have the most prolific actors to appear in 1959. They are as follows: Hattie Jacques, pictured as Laura Moon in Constable; Kenneth Williams, seen here as Edwin Milton in Teacher; Charles Hawtrey pictured above as Timothy Gorse in Constable; Kenneth Connor as Gregory Adams in Teacher; Leslie Phillips pictured as Tom Potter in Constable; Joan Sims as Sarah Allcock in Teacher; Cyril Chamberlain as Alf in Teacher; Sidney James as Frank Wilkins in Constable and finally, Ted Ray as William Wakefield in Teacher.
Of those featured, all appeared in both films produced that year apart from Ted Ray who only guest starred in Teacher, being replaced by the new headlining artist, one Sidney James for his first Carry On, Constable.
Stay tuned for the Carry On Faces of 1960 coming up soon!
