And so, once again December is upon us. This will be my first Christmas at the helm of Carry On Blogging so I wanted to go all out, bringing you a daily dose of festive Carry On cheer each day on the lead up to the 25th.
So every day I will bring you another cracking Carry On photo with a festive theme. They will probably all be rather naughty, but hopefully all quite nice.
We've now reached the 7th of December - time flies when you're having fun! Today I bring you a hilarious photo of Hattie Jacques in true outlandish Mother Superior garb from the classic 1969 Carry On Christmas television special. Hattie was fantastic whenever she appeared but she added class and television expertise to this show. I love the scene pictured above when she leads a group of very unconvincing school girls (Hawtrey, Bresslaw, Butterworth and Scott) in some Christmas carols, much to the dismay of Sid's Scrooge.
The four male actors lark about and mug to the camera with complete and utter relish and at several points you can see Peter Butterworth break down into fits of giggles. Ever the trouper, Hattie keeps it together and doesn't crack under the pressure of all those incorrigible scene stealers. It's all very rough around the edges but I love it all the more for those reasons! Those were the days!
What a Carry On at Christmas!
