Kenneth Cope's daughter joins Coronation Street

Perhaps a rather tenuous Carry On link but a link nonetheless. With thanks to Glenda Young, editor of the Coronation Street Blog for alerting me this snippet of news. Martha Cope, actress and daughter of the legendary Kenneth Cope, will soon be joining the cast of Coronation Street.

Martha will play Joanne, a lady regular character Kevin Webster meets on a date. I'm not sure how long Martha will be appearing in The Street, however I'd imagine it's just a guest spot. Martha has an impressive list of acting credits to her name including many familiar shows such as Holby City, Dr Who and The Thick Of It.

Martha's father, the actor Kenneth Cope, famously starred in Corrie in the early 1960s as petty criminal Jed Stone. Kenneth returned to Weatherfield as the same character in 2009, to great acclaim. Kenneth also starred in the likes of That Was The Week That Was, Randall and Hopkirk (Deceased) and the film version of George and Mildred.

Kenneth also starred in two classic Carry Ons from the early 1970s - first of all as union man Vic Spanner in 1971's Carry On At Your Convenience and then later that same year as Cyril Carter in Carry On Matron.

I'm looking forward to seeing another Cope on the cobbles!
